The Tampa Bay Buccaneers received some good news Friday at training camp. Wide receiver Chris Godwin has returned to practice as reported by Greg Auman of The Athletic.
“Bucs receiver Chris Godwin is practicing today for the first time since knee surgery. Has a brace on his right knee.”
Granted, Godwin is still working on the side, but this is a huge step and great news for Godwin and the team.

Godwin was cleared for training camp activities last week after surgery for a torn ACL in January. The injury happened in Week 15 of the 2021 season, and had Godwin missing the final three games with the team. Godwin still had a very productive season in 2021. Posting 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns.
The Buccaneers had a contingency plan if Godwin’s injury lingered, bringing in free agent receivers Russell Gage and Julio Jones. Behind them was a fairly deep group of receivers in Breshad Perriman, Scotty Miller, Jaelon Darden, Cyril Grayson and Tyler Johnson. And we didn’t even mention stud receiver Mike Evans.
Surely the Buccaneers will take it slow with Godwin’s full return, they’ve put the pieces in place to cover for his absence. And while none of the aforementioned players are close to equal with Godwin, the Bucs have made sure receiver depth won’t be an issue this year.
ESPN’s Jenna Laine provided us with more video of Godwin Friday.
