Offensive Point Of Attack: Buccaneers vs Rams

This Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense is struggling. The run game is atrocious, Tom Brady has been off, and subsequently, there is no rhythm. So what can the Buccaneers do to attack the Rams?

Balanced

The Rams are in a better situation than the Buccaneers. They have a defense that has been showing up in all facets of the game each week. They are in the top ten in points allowed, passing yards allowed, and rush yards allowed. But even with those numbers, they are still three and four. This is a defense that is hard to decipher and beat coupled with a horrid offense much like the Buccaneers.

Chemistry, Creativity, and Diversity

There’s really only one way to beat this team offensively. The Buccaneers must get creative and break away from the overly simplified playbook they have been using. They are predictable and its become evident. Reports came out after the Ravens game as videos surfaced of “mic’d up” players talking about being able to determine Buccaneer plays. They ran some of the same plays over and over again. Not running a wide receiver screen from the same formation three times in a row would also be beneficial.

I observed this in the Ravens, Panthers, and Packers game. They can’t do that this week. The inclusion of play action has been noted as missing. Unfortunately during one of the last press conferences Byron Leftwich alluded to desiring to establish the run prior to executing any play action. It should be added no matter what. Tom Brady has been wildly successful with it in the past. Another way to get after things is to revisit who runs on first and ten. Leonard Fournette has not been as productive as in times past. On the other hand Rachaad White seems to be proving his worth. It’s another wrinkle to make the defenses think. Either way the offense needs to find itself.

Final Thought

If this team doesn’t pull it together then there is someone who needs to be fired. At this point the fan base knows who that is but does the front office and will they pull the trigger?
