It’s the start of the new league year. 40+ years of watching football has taught me a very important lesson. Sit back and watch things unfold.
In the span of less than one week, the Buccaneers have signed the following:
Mike Evans
Baker Mayfield
Antoine Winfield Jr. (Tagged)
Lavonte David
Chase McLaughlin
Greg Gaines
They also traded Carlton Davis and released Shaq Barrett.
Other teams have made splash signings but that’s because they were looking to upgrade their football team from the outside.
We’ve seen this work well (Brady) and not so well (Antonio Brown). Whenever you bring new guys into your lockeroom, there’s a chance that they won’t mesh with the current players.
That’s not to say that the Bucs should only bring back their guys (Devin White see ya) but they can be selective on who they sign.
There are still enough guys here from the Super Bowl who know how to lead by example (Evans, Godwin, Wirfs, Winfield ).
This is an unprecedented era we are witnessing with our team. Very few Super Bowl winners remain competitive 3 years afterwards.
The Buccaneers still need to find a pass rusher, and help along the interior Offensive Line but with many months to go, trust that Licht will find them.  The first wave, like the draft, is where teams spend big. However, it’s that second wave of cheaper FAs where good teams can find those hidden gems.
So, sit back, grab some popcorn and watch it all unfold. I know I will.
Go Bucs!!
