Via NFL.com’s Mike Garafolo, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signing veteran free agent wide receiver Sterling Shepard.
“The #Buccaneers have agreed to terms with veteran WR Sterling Shepard on a one-year deal, source says.
Following eight seasons with the #Giants, who drafted him in the second round in 2016, Shepard reunites with his former Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield in Tampa.”
The signing of Shepard makes sense for the Bucs with the recent departure from Deven Thompkins. While the team also has reportedly signed wide receiver Cody Thompson recently, that appears more of a depth signing. Shepard brings so much more to the table with over 4,000 yards receiving on his resume. Definitely worth mentioning that Shepard played with Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield in college at the University of Oklahoma.
Look for Shepard to provide more veteran leadership while pushing Trey Palmer and Jalen McMillan for playing time.
