Godwin on Moving Back to the Slot, “I’m Really Comfortable There”
After a year of playing “outside” of the offensive formation Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is heading back to the slot. Newly hired offensive coordinator Liam Coen has stated he plans on Godwin playing the “majority” of his snaps in the slot position.
So how does Godwin feel about returning to the slot? Tuesday Godwin spoke about the move and how he’s looking forward to it.
“I think what I learned over the last four or five years, I’m really comfortable there,” Godwin stated, via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “And obviously I feel like I have a lot of versatility playing inside and outside and I think that flexibility of being inside allows me to get more creative, allows me to be a little more involved in the run game and not be so obvious. … It allows me to be involved in other ways instead of just catching the ball.”
With Godwin heading into the last year of his current contract, this move could be beneficial to him. Not just stat-wise, but monetarily as well. With the emergence of Trey Palmer and the drafting of Jalen McMillan, this offense looks to be extremely dangerous.
