We are so close to football Buccaneers fans.
Ah, training camp. The closest that football fans will get to real football for a few weeks. It is also a time of incredible and completely unrealistic hype. Or a time of complete overreaction if a player looks slightly off. Fan is short for fanatic if you’ll recall. But training camp is a good gauge for both new and old players. therefore, I wanted to highlight a rookie and veteran who I think are really intriguing to the success of the team.
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell is certainly an intriguing prospect. I said before that rookie edge rushers rarely make an impact. However, Braswell might be an exception for this season, and not necessarily because of his skill. Nobody knows what the hell Randy Gregory is doing. I worry Gregory doesn’t know what Gregory is doing. I assumed Bowles would let Gregory start most the early games before introducing Braswell as the eventual starter. But now, the position looks to be wide open for Braswell to take the starting role. I would say JTS can challenge for it, but I don’t see it happening four years into his career. While Braswell is certainly raw, he does have a lot of natural talent. If it comes together, he can have a faster impact then I would’ve expected.
Calijah Kancey
The other guy that I want to shine a spotlight on is also on defense and isn’t exactly a veteran. While Calijah Kancey wasn’t exactly Aaron Donald in his first season, he wasn’t half-bad either. Despite missing three games for the Buccaneers, he still did manage 4 sacks and looked really solid. And I think he only has one direction to go. Up. He will be one year removed from his calf injury and also will have had one year in this defensive system. Imagine snapping the ball and you see Vita Vea and/or Calijah Kancey either collapsing the pocket or just making your center look foolish. That’s the world I want to live in.
