Alright, so like I’ve said before, I can only go off other Buccaneers media reporting. I unfortunately am not able to go to training camps and report directly.
To provide a quick summary: Mike Evans still looks sharp, the running backs look fast as hell, and, as alluded to in the title, some new faces seem to be shining on defense.
Now, to start with some other miscellaneous thoughts, we have to talk about Randy Gregory. Todd Bowles may not want to, but I have to address it. That being said, there is just no word on where he is. He is literally missing, and it seems like Bowles is really pissed about it. He was snipping at reporters asking about it probably because he knows its stupid he has to address questions about it when Gregory should be here.

In more positive Buccaneers news, Tristan Wirfs did show up and participate despite seeking a contract extension. With the recent extension of Christian Darrisaw looming large, Wirfs might be adding another zero. Wirfs is looking to be the highest paid tackle, which makes sense as he’s the best tackle.
Mike Evans though, how bout that guy. He is still chugging along at 31. By all accounts he looked sharp as ever catching passes from Baker Mayfield and Trask. He caught balls along the sideline, over the middle of the field, and might’ve caught one while wrestling a land shark.
Evans wasn’t the only receiver looking good. Chris Godwin appears back to his 2019 form. For those that may not remember, in 2019, he was pretty good. He had 85 receptions, 1333 yards, and nine tds. In recent seasons, he hadn’t been as good, one because of injury, but also, he wasn’t playing the slot as much. At the time, I liked moving Godwin around a lot, but in retrospect, I think that really brought his numbers down. Oh, and Jalen McMillan is already drawing praise. Yeah, I think the wide receiver room is doing alright.

Running back might not be a liability? Rejoice! I know it’s really early to tell with Bucky Irving, but God, he looks so freaking fast and shifty. I am just so excited to watch him play. Rachaad White also looks like he is playing with some fire. Also, Graham Barton has already gotten some playing time with the starters. Barton should be an immediate upgrade for the IOL so White doesn’t have to crawl naked through barbed wire to get three yards.
Let’s talk about maybe the biggest stars during today’s camp. Zyon McCollum and K.J. Britt are trying to prove they belong as starters. McCollum had some great defensive snaps where he was blanketing Evans and had several pass break-ups. And Britt seems to want to be a leader on defense. Antoine Winfield Jr said Britt was trash talking Mayfield a lot. And, I don’t think I am speaking for myself when I say I need to hear that conversation. Those two getting into it would be absolutely hilarious. Last season Britt was solid at linebacker. Not great, but pretty good. He was exactly what he needed to be next to Lavonte David. However, as much as we may not want to accept it, David will retire one day. So if Britt can be that leader on defense, that would be amazing.
