The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are nearly a week into their 2024 training camp and so far have escaped being delt any serious injuries. That is until Tuesday.
Via ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler,
“Bucs OG Sua Opeta suffered a torn ACL at camp this week, per source. Opeta had signed with Bucs in free agency and got hurt during Tuesday’s practice.”
Sua Opeta was signed by the Buccaneers to a one-year deal after spending four years with the Philadelphia Eagles. Opeta was competing with Ben Bredeson for a starting spot at left guard.
Via our very own Devin Sanguinett,
Sua Opeta’s knee injury turns out to be a full ACL tear. Now, Opeta was in competition to be the starting LG for the Bucs along the o-line. Presumably, that job will automatically be going to Ben Bredeson who Opeta was competing with. Opeta signed with the Bucs on a one-year $1.375 million deal after playing with the Eagles.
According to PFF, he was graded at 53.1, which isn’t amazing, but he has had years where he was graded fairly well. Back in 2021, he had a grade over 73. Still, for an undrafted rookie, he has contributed far more than you would expect. This is a blow to the Buc’s depth and hopefully Opeta can make a smooth recovery.
