On this episode of the Real Bucs Talk Podcast the guys ask the question on most Buccaneers fans minds. Will outside linebacker Yaya Diaby take the next step to being an elite pass rusher?
Diaby experienced a set-back this week when he was carted off of the practice field Thursday with an apparent ankle injury.
Via Fox Sports’ Greg Auman,
“Yaya Diaby carted off the field during Bucs practice. Looked like he wasn’t putting weight on his left leg. Potentially significant injury.”
Via NBC Sports,
“After practice, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters at a press conference that Diaby injured his ankle. He said he did not have an update regarding the prognosis and that the team is “hopeful” Diaby avoided a major injury.”
The severity of the injury is unknown at the moment. Diaby is coming off of a stellar rookie campaign that saw him post 7.5 sacks. This could be a very significant blow to the Bucs pass rush in 2024.
More from head coach Todd Bowles via the team’s website,
“He has an ankle, that’s all we know right now,” stated Bowles. “We’ll see what the prognosis is as we go forward and take some more steps. It’s football. We’ll wait for the results to come in right now. We’re hopeful, so we’ll wait and see before we say all is lost right now. He’s been having a great camp, he’s a great player and we just wish the best for him.”
Bowles continued,
“It’s a shame,” stated Bowles. “He was doing real well. It was somebody we were looking forward to seeing a lot more of. He was doing great in the spring, he started out camp great. It’s unfortunate but you’ve got to move on.”
The MRI revealed that Diaby suffered a high-ankle sprain and should be ready by week one against the Washington Commanders.
