The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued the arduous task of trimming their roster down to the mandatory 53 man limit. Monday one of those cuts was veteran wide receiver Sterling Shepard.

Via NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport,

“The Bucs have released veteran WR Sterling Shepard, source said. The 31-year-old signed with hopes of rekindling his rapport with old teammate Baker Mayfield. And that may still happen. The team is holding a practice spot for him.”

Shepard signed with the Buccaneers during the offseason with hopes of reuniting with his college teammate Baker Mayfield. That still may happen if Shepard is signed back to the practice squad.

Via Fox Sports Greg Auman,

Shepard’s deal was a “veteran salary benefit (VSB) contract for Sterling Shepard, so the veteran minimum salary at $1.21 million and at most a $167,500 bonus.”
