How the Buccaneers Can Beat the Commanders

Tampa Bay Buccaneers football is back! Whoo hoo! Why do I feel so stressed? That’s because this game is somewhat living up to the billing of a trap game. The Bucs should beat the Commanders, but are now missing several key pieces on defense. Bowles will really need to be in his bag here.

One of the positives of being forced to delay this for six hours because I was stranded with a car that wasn’t working is having the knowledge that Calijah Kancey is out. Well, obviously it’s not actually good, but it helps me figure out the concept of this article. The Bucs are down Logan Hall, Earnest Brown, and Kancey.

This is bad because not only is it a rookie QB who will be more likely to run, but one who already was known for being a scrambler. Kancey would’ve been one of the best guys to stop Daniels from leaving the pocket. Plus, because of all the chasing the line will likely have to do, they might tire out easier.

The Bucs will likely be running a lot of nickel packages to compensate for the gaping holes on the d-line. The new pieces being brought up need to get ready to stop Daniels from running all over him. This is a game where the run defense has to show up. Not only will Daniels be tough to bring down, but there is also Brian Robinson. When a man gets shot, it apparently gives him the toughness to run over anybody and anything. Makes sense when you think about it.

On offense, they should be lighting up the scoreboard. I know our DB room isn’t amazing, but the Commanders one is a real who’s who. Plus, you also have to consider the fact Mike Evans goes off when he plays the Redskin/Football Team/Commanders, regardless of if it is a win or loss. Their run defense is definitely better with guys like Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne, so not sure what Rachaad White will be able to do on the ground. But he should still be an effective passing target.

What this game will come down to is if the Buccaneers can make the most on offense against a depleted unit and if the defense can stop the run. If they can hold the Commanders backs and Daniels to under 100 yards rushing in the game, I think that will keep them from winning. Get Mike Evans the ball on offense and hopefully Liam Coen can make them look silly. The Bucs should have a win here, but I expect it to be closer than originally anticipated.
