Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank: Buccaneers vs Lions

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Detroit Lions 20-16 Sunday to improve to 2-0 on the season. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank”. Who gets a seat at the table? Who gets to walk the plank?

Captain’s Table:

SirVocea Dennis:

SVD didn’t have any big-time box score ticks, but he made some huge open-field tackles on those elite Lions playmakers, and the small things are what made this game a Bucs victory. Dennis did those very well.

Christian Izien:

A bit more of an obvious candidate, Izien had a pair of pass deflections in some huge moments as well as an interception. Not too bad for an undrafted free agent.

Jordan Whitehead:

Another obvious choice, Whitehead was all over the field with 11 tackles, 8 solo, and one of them coming for a loss. He even sprinkled in a pass deflection just for fun. The veteran needed to step up in AWJ’s absence, and he did so swimmingly.

Zyon McCollum:

Really could’ve done the whole secondary; Zyon had himself a day with 4 pass breakups and a pick. He was questionable going into the game with a concussion, but my goodness he certainly didn’t play like it. He was all over the field, doing his thing and playing a big role in holding the Lions to 16 points.

Walk the Plank:

The NFL Sunday Ticket Package:

What a racket. So damn expensive.

The 4 pm slate:

Why were all of the good games at 1 pm?

Bucs’ running game:

Baker Mayfield was their leading rusher, and Rachaad White and Bucky Irving were nonfactors. Not blaming either one of them, not blaming the o-line, not blaming the playcalling. But the production was nonexistent, and the Bucs aren’t going to be able to get lucky with many other good teams with that rushing attack.
