How the Buccaneers Can Beat the Broncos

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers should in theory have this in the bag. Denver is a worse team in pretty much every single way. I was actually somewhat optimistic about the team before the season. I thought the roster was average and they would be competitive. And, technically they have been in most of the games, but they do not look good.

The defense is ok at best, but the offense looks dull and uninspired. It looks like there is no vision there, which is surprising for a Sean Payton team. By all accounts, this should be an easy victory. Which is why I am nervous.

For the Bucs on offense, they just need to get favorable match-ups against Patrick Surtain. Surtain is one of the only elite players that the Broncos have and Vance Joseph will likely always have him in coverage against Mike Evans. Evans is good enough I feel to win a few matchups against Surtain, but in an ideal world, Liam Coen would find a way to get Evans covered by someone else. Either that, or just throw to the guy not covered by him since the secondary isn’t all that spectacular. Baker and Godwin should be able to have another nice game. I mentioned this in my last article, but the Broncos have let up over 140 yards on the ground in their last two games. if the Bucs can’t manage to get close to that, then we have serious problems.

On defense, it is all about making Bo Nix throw Mo Pix. Bet no one has made that joke before. But Nix has not thrown for a TD yet this season and has thrown two picks in his two games. I know this secondary is usually allergic to catching the football, but they should be able to get a few takeaways of their own. Bo has had to throw a lot in his two starts purely because the Broncos run game is somehow worse than ours, a rare accomplishment. Their o-line is also banged up. They’ve lost Garrett Bowles, their LT, so at least we’re evened out on that front. It should be easy to make him uncomfortable and make some very bad decisions.

At the end of the day, the Bucs should win by a lot of points. Now, I might suspect the Buccaneers teams of old to blow this sort of game, but I don’t think the team that beats the Lions in the grittiest of games will blow this game. The Broncos are a bad team that haven’t been coached all that well and the Bucs should take advantage of that for an easy victory in a few hours.
