Broncos Embarrass Buccaneers 26-7

Dread it, run from it, but you can never escape it, the “Trap Game”. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers didn’t just fall for the trap game, they fell headfirst into the reverse bear trap from the movie Saw. And like Saw, it was tough to watch the Bucs. If your game is over by the end of the first quarter, then there are serious problems. Yes, the Bucs are injured to hell and back, but there is no excuse for this.

Bo Nix looked like Peyton Manning out there slinging the rock. That is in stark contrast to when he looked like Justin Fields his first two weeks. Jamel Dean could’ve been replaced by a fan and I wouldn’t have noticed a difference. That may have been because the Bucs once again garnered a grand total of zero sacks and couldn’t tackle to save their lives. I gave the line a pass last week since it was against the Lions, but there was no excuse for what happened today. Just embarrassing.

Yet, for as bad as the defensive line was, it was infinitely better than the Bucs o-line. Apparently if Luke Goedeke is out everyone forgets how to block. No one on the line played well, and that includes Tristan Wirfs. 7 sacks for Baker Mayfield, and there should’ve been more. Baker himself did not play well, but it’s hard to blame him when the o-line couldn’t block someone on Social Media and his receivers couldn’t get open to save their lives. Mike Evans was a fucking ghost, although that might be more because of good play from Pat Surtain (man, did someone predict Surtain might punk Evans?).

Though it may be difficult to in a game where I can count on one hand the players who played well, I want to single two out for sub optimal effort. Rachaad White and Jamel Dean. Dean in particular as he has been invisible since signing his contract. He needs to make sure to send a father’s day card to Courtland Sutton after today. If he keeps up the performance he has shown for the whole year, the Buccaneers should cut him. I hate to say that, but he has done nothing to warrant being a starting CB.

White hurts. I spent a lot of time last year defending him by saying he wasn’t the sole reason the Bucs run game sucked as the interior o-line was bad. Well guess what buddy? You’re the problem. He should be behind Irving on the depth chart. He hasn’t averaged 3 ypc in any game and Iriving managed to get 7.8 ypc. This was also when the Bucs looked like they could maybe come back. Irving also was basically the only bright spot in this miserable affair.

But Bucs fans, please step away from the edge. This was a bad game, but nearly every NFL team has one of these games where they are absolutely pantsed. It sucks, but if the Bucs can get healthy, I anticipate they will look a lot better. Remember, this team still has been dealing with the effect of the dead cap from the Brady years. It has caused them to be very shallow at depth. No one could’ve anticipated losing so many players. The Lions game was awesome, but you can’t bank on always performing like that with so many players gone. Just got to help reinforcements come against Philly. I expected the Buccaneers to be 2-1 at this point. While they did it in a different way, there is no reason to be down on the team yet.
