The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints 51-27 to improve to 4-2 on the season. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank!” Enjoy!
Captain’s Table:
Antoine Winfield, Jr.
The defense wasn’t great, but it was fun to see AWJ out there running around again.
Tykee Smith
Really should’ve had 2 forced fumbles today, but Smith was fun to watch. I’m coming around quite a bit on Smith and his fit in this defense.
Sean Tucker
Mr. Tucker, my goodness! What a day for the 2nd year man who was undrafted out of Syracuse. He was so much fun to watch in every facet of the game. On the ground, that little dump off he turned into a TD, and other plays as a receiver, Tucker was a big bright spot. The running game was excellent in general, as it was the Buccaneers second 200-yard rushing game as a team since 2016.
Bucky Irving
After a disastrous ending to last week’s loss, Bucky was awesome. He was great. He did his thing.
Tampa Bay
Not the team, but the city, the region. We had quite a week, to say the least. But it’ll get better. We’re all in this together, even if the Bucs had a weird game Sunday that still ended in a W. We’re here.
Baker Mayfield
He’s also a WTP candidate, but he threw a quartet of touchdowns and was doing his usual silly thing of putting himself in harm’s way, much to his detriment. But by golly can he get the people going.
Walk the Plank:
Jake Camarda
Phew man. That dude had a rough day, and he’s had a rough season. He could very well be cut as soon as tomorrow. The punt return for a TD and the nasty 39-yard punt in the 2nd half were brutal.
Bad luck
I mean, I get it, this could’ve been a nasty loss. Losing to a rookie QB making his debut against a team that really wasn’t very good to begin with is unacceptable. But the way the Bucs were screwing up was just so hard to pin down. The defense wasn’t perfect, but they were also put into some tough positions by both those really unlucky Baker picks and the terrible punts. They really didn’t give up that much yardage, and most of the points came off turnovers or the punt return for a TD.
Baker Mayfield
Speaking of those Baker picks, he had a pair that weren’t his fault. Got it. He had one that was 100% totally on him. And he had at least one more turnover-worthy play at the end of the 1st half. This was a bad game from Baker and he could’ve lost them this easily winnable game.
