The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Baltimore Ravens 41-31 at Raymond James Stadium on Monday Night Football. Unfortunately that wasn’t the only loss the Pewter Pirates incurred.
Trailing by 10 points in the waining minutes the Buccaneers were driving and looking to pull within one score of the Ravens. Then the unthinkable happened, Chris Godwin went down after a reception, and was unable to leave the field under his own power.
“Bucs WR Chris Godwin will undergo surgery on his dislocated ankle this week, sources say. He’ll see a doctor today to determine the damage & is expected to make a full recovery for 2025 — when he’ll be a FA.”
Head Coach Todd Bowles on why Godwin was in the game when the outcome was pretty much decided, via Fox Sports Greg Auman,
“He’s a player, and we’re trying to win the ball game. We were down 10, so we were still trying to get points and kick another onside kick, and it just happened. With Mike going down we didn’t have that many receivers as it was, so we played with what we had.”
“It’s unfortunate he got hurt and we feel bad about that. But he’s a football player and he wanted to be in the game just like Baker and everyone else wanted to be in the game.”
The reality here is, Godwin will require season ending surgery. And with this being a contract year, we may have just seen Godwin’s last game in the Pewter and Red.
