Buccaneers Mayfield on Interceptions, “It Pisses Me Off”

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has had an interesting first half of the 2024 NFL season.

Through the first five games, Mayfield threw for 1,164 yards, 11 touchdowns, two interceptions while posting a completion percentage of 72. The last three games haven’t been as kind to Mayfield, especially on the interception side of things. After the fast start of the first five games Mayfield has added seven more interceptions to his season totals. The Buccaneers have lost two of those three games.

Mayfield spoke about this during his recent press conference.

“Yeah, it pisses me off. I don’t want to turn the ball over. To me, that’s shooting our whole team in the foot. That’s not what I want to do, so yeah, it makes me angry. Obviously, that’s something I can directly fix and that’s what I’m going to do.”

Mayfield continued,

“There’s always a fine line of balancing the aggression and protecting the football. When you have your shots, you have to take advantage of them but if they’re not there, do the safe thing, chuck it down, get out of the play, move on to the next down, and live to play another down,” Mayfield stated. “And like you said, in a game like this, being smart with the football is the most important thing and going from there.”

Mayfield and the Buccaneers head to Arrowhead Monday to take on the undefeated Kansas CIty Chiefs.
