Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank: Buccaneers vs 49ers

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the San Francisco 49ers 23-20 Sunday at Raymond James Stadium. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank “. Enjoy!

Walk the Plank:

Baker Mayfield

I mean, my goodness, having such a small yardage total is inexcusable. I don’t care if you’re playing San Francisco, you’re still at home. You’re still supposed to be this solid offense. And I know Baker’s struggled with turnovers, so it was nice to see him have a clean game, but if this is what’s going to accompany it, then I don’t know what to say.

Liam Coen!

Whatever magic luster he had going on this offense the past couple weeks, it disappeared Sunday. They were so bad in almost every facet of the game, except, ironically, running the ball. They were fine on the ground, but by golly he can’t keep running the same old screen plays over and over again. It’s exhaustingly ineffective.

The Buccaneers hosting Jon Gruden

Look, I’m all for 2nd chances. I get that Gruden has had some time to think about his, um, choices, and he’s had a little resurgence on TikTok with his weird content where he just reads stat lines in an aggressive manner. Hell, I don’t know the guy, maybe he’s truly not as bad as those emails would suggest. But it’s still a tough look to take the guy’s name off your Ring of Honor just to invite him back a couple years later. I don’t know, it was just weird to me, and if you read through the actual content of the emails, they’re pretty brutal. I’d like to think no one is as bad as their worst moment, but by golly was his moment pretty bad. Plus, I’m mostly for 2nd chances when it comes to regular people, not people who never have to work another day in their lives because they have oodles of money.

Captain’s Table:

Bucky Irving

As bad as the offense looked, Bucky was pretty fun. He had some solid runs and managed to end up with over 70 yards on the ground. He’s a fan favorite, and a nice compliment to Rachaad White. Hopefully the rest of the offense can catch up after their Bye Week.

Bye Weeks

My goodness do the Bucs need a break. For Mike Evans to get healthy, for everyone to take a breath, and for the Bucs to look ahead and realize they need to win some damn games. Soon. 4-6 is brutal. I think they’ve got maybe 1 more loss before it starts impacting their ability to make the playoffs, Luckily, they’ve got some pretty awful teams to play moving forward.
