The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hang on to beat the lowly Carolina Panthers 26-23 in overtime to improve to 6-6 on the season. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table/Walk The Plank”. Enjoy!
Captain’s Table
Bucky Irving
Hey, another week, another great Bucky Irving performance. It’s a shame they threw at all, because the Panthers couldn’t stop Bucky. I get balance, and they had to make the defense respect it, but Bucky behind this o-line was so good.
Baker’s Guts
Playing on that bum ankle was so ridiculous. Really impressive stuff, even if the result wasn’t there.
Anthony Nelson
What a strip. What a play. My goodness that might be the play of the year.
Rachaad White
THAT’S WHY HE’S THE GOAT. THE GOAAATTTTTTT
Walk the Plank:
Baker’s Decision Making
The 2 picks were brutal. He looked off all day, against one of the worst pass defenses in football. He really could’ve had 3 interceptions but luckily the Panthers dropped one. He also had so many instances where he took unnecessary sacks. Just brutal stuff. He was playing with fire all day, and it cost the Bucs the game.
The NFL
So, an official goes down, and they don’t have someone to replace them? Hope the guy is all good obviously, really seemed like a brutal injury, but my goodness for the NFL not to have at least one alternate official in a sport where officials are always unfortunately at risk of taking hits like that is not just weird it’s malpractice.
FOX
The weird cutoff of the Adam Thielen TD decision was inexcusable. I hated missing that explanation as to why the call stood, because it looked pretty clearly like an overturn. But hey, gotta get that ad revenue, right?
Pass Protection
For as well as they held up in the run game, the offensive line’s inability to hold up against this sorry Panthers defense was odd to say the least. Given, Baker did them no favors, especially after he injured his ankle, but they shared at least half the blame for the sack total.
