The Tampa Bay Buccaneers host the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday at Raymond James Stadium, and will do so with a revamped secondary.

Via the team’s website,

“A day after re-signing second-year safety Kaevon Merriweather amid a rash of injuries at the position, the Buccaneers also brought back Ryan Neal on Wednesday. Neal, who played in 15 games with 13 starts for Tampa Bay last season, was signed to the practice squad. No corresponding move was necessary as there was an open spot on that unit after the promotion of linebacker Vi Jones last week.”

Ryan Neal, 28, played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023, appearing in 15 games with 13 starts. He accumulated 76 tackles during his time with the Bucs. Neal has also had stints with the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks.

Over his six-year career, Neal has played in 62 games, starting 32, and has recorded impressive stats, including 236 tackles, two sacks, three interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and a forced fumble.

The Bucs are facing a shortage at the safety position due to a string of recent injuries. Jordan Whitehead is currently on injured reserve, nursing a pectoral injury. Mike Edwards suffered an ankle injury during the team’s recent win over the Carolina Panthers. Additionally, rookie safety Tykee Smith has been sidelined for the past three games with a knee issue.
