The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell to the Dallas Cowboys 26-24 on Sunday to fall to 8-7 on the season. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article “Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank!” Enjoy!
Walk the Plank:
Baker Mayfield’s love of interceptions
Want to know the only guy who’s thrown more picks than Baker Mayfield? Kirk Cousins. Want to know who’s playing QB for the Atlanta Falcons? Not Kirk Cousins. Baker is great at many things, but taking care of the damn ball is not one of them. He’s just a better version of Jameis, and that’s fine, but let’s also not just dismiss his inability to not be smart with the ball. Especially in a game with playoff implications. Where those mistakes cause losses. Like they did Sunday night.
The defense in the 1st half
Just bad. Couldn’t stop a bloody nose in that 1st half. CeeDee Lamb is elite, one of the best receivers in the league. Cooper Rush is a backup QB. They had 2 backup offensive linemen. They didn’t have a great rushing attack. This was inexcusable.
Linebackers
Love LVD. He’s done so much for the Bucs, and he continues to be a strong leader. Him and his other linebackers are not cutting it. They’re not getting it done defending the middle of the field. It’s a huge issue.
Rachaad White’s ball security
Two fumbles in as many weeks, you’d think he was Baker the way he was so nonchalant with taking care of the ball.
The New York Giants
This isn’t to complain about them not doing the Bucs a favor by beating the Falcons. Bucs are doing a fine job blowing their chances of making the playoffs all on their own. But my goodness they weren’t even competitive. They’re not a real NFL team.
Captain’s Table:
N/A
Nothing good to talk about. Bucky was fine but not good enough. Mike had some nice catches but fell flat against the worst secondary in football according to PFF grades. Rachaad couldn’t hold onto the ball in crunch time. Baker choked on the big stage. This was a bummer of a game. Not anything to smile about.
