The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are waiving linebacker Antonio Grier and defensive lineman Earnest Brown ahead of this week’s matchup with the Carolina Panthers.
“On Friday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived defensive lineman Earnest Brown and rookie linebacker Antonio Grier, giving them three open spots on the 53-man roster heading into the weekend and Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.”
Brown joined the Bucs in May as a free agent, following a stint with the San Francisco 49ers earlier in the 2024 offseason. His NFL experience includes two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, where he appeared in 12 games, starting three, and recorded 14 tackles and one tackle for loss. This season, Brown played in three games for the Buccaneers, participating in 21 defensive snaps.
Grier signed with the Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie in May and has since split his time between the practice squad and active roster. He has appeared in seven games, primarily contributing on special teams, where he has recorded one kick-coverage tackle, while also seeing two defensive snaps.
After placing defensive back Christian Izien on injured reserve this week the team now has three spots open on their 53-man roster following these moves. Obviously one of these spots will be taken by Shaq Barrett who was just signed late Friday night. The other two spots and who will fill them has not yet been reported. But thoughts are that one could be used for the return of safety Jordan Whitehead.
We’ll keep you posted as new information becomes available.
