The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the Carolina Panthers 48-14 to stay in the playoff hunt. That can only mean it’s time for Carter Brantley’s weekly article, ” Captain’s Table/Walk the Plank!” Enjoy!
Captain’s Table:
The Duck
The duck is good luck. That duck is a superstar. Forget Buc-ky. It’s Duc-ky time. That duck needs to be given all the bread that duck needs or wants. I hope the duck is doing well. Because while the Bucs forced the blocked punt and took it to the house, the duck stole the show.
Bucky Irving
Maybe don’t forget Bucky; he cracked 1k rushing yards, the first time a Buc has done it since 2015 and the first time a rookie has done it since 2012 (both Doug Martin).
Baker Mayfield
He didn’t make any mistakes Sunday. I mean, maybe a couple of missed throws, but after a subpar showing last week and a continued display of turning it over far too much, Baker was perfect. Might be his best game as a Buc. Against the Panthers, I know, but it’s impressive nonetheless, especially in a game with massive playoff implications.
Mike Evans
No, Mike might not end up with 1k receiving yards (although he got himself on track with his huge game), but by golly he was still Mike Evans on Sunday, with a pair of touchdowns and some excellent catches sprinkled in throughout the game.
Jalen McMillan
For a team with Bucky Irving and Graham Barton, it sure is nice to have a third guy out of your rookie class turn out to be a solid contributor so early. McMillan not only had a couple of great touchdown grabs, but he was a key downfield blocker earlier in the game on a big-time run from Bucky.
The Defense
Hey, let’s give credit where credit is due; they did their thing Sunday. Sure, the 2 touchdowns weren’t great, but there were a whole lot of 3-and-outs produced by that defense. Really outstanding work.
Walk the Plank
The Giants
I had to include something for this section, and there was truly nothing to critique for the Buccaneers, so let’s talk about the Giants blowing their chance at a top pick. I mean, I’m actually more of an advocate for competing, and good on the Giants for winning even if it’s at their own detriment, but man, they just can’t do anything right.
