The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without their starting safety Jordan Whitehead Sunday in their season finale against the New Orleans Saints.
Via Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times,
“Bucs S Jordan Whitehead was involved in a automobile accident today and suffered injuries significant enough for the team to place him in the Non-football injury list.”
“Bucs S Jordan Whitehead suffered injuries in a car accident on his way to team facilities on Saturday morning and will be placed on the reserve/non-football injury list…The Bucs have promoted S Ryan Neal to the active roster.”
The official statement from the team,
“Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident this morning on his way to our practice facility. Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will not play in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints and has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. We have signed Ryan Neal from our practice squad to the 53-man roster.”
Neal joined the Buccaneers’ practice squad in early December. He was elevated for the team’s Week 15 game versus the Chargers, recording three tackles in the process. He previously played for Tampa Bay in 2023 and has accumulated significant experience across 63 games.
Due to injuries, the Buccaneers will be without their top three safeties. Antoine Winfield Jr., Jordan Whitehead, and Christian Izien – will all miss Sunday’s matchup. The team will turn to Kaevon Merriweather and Mike Edwards, with Tykee Smith playing nickel. Tavierre Thomas will provide backup support.
