On Sunday the Tampa Bay Buccaneers attempt to win their division for a 4th straight year by beating the New Orleans Saints.
Sometimes I wish I could turn off my obsession for all things Bucs football. Then again, I probably wouldn’t enjoy the game I love so much by doing so. If you’re reading this, chances are you’re either a fanatic yourself or know someone who is.
I’ve met some people who say they cheer for multiple teams. I always give them the “are you serious!” look! Pick one team and ride the emotional rollercoaster. Since 1979 it’s been one team and one team only. I honestly don’t have the energy or time to follow more than one.
Between listening to several podcasts, reading articles and social media, there really isn’t anything about the team that I don’t know. Living in Costa Rica I even found a way to watch all 4 Tampa TV stations.
Ever since the Falcons lost on Sunday night to Washington, my stomach has been in knots. The anticipation of Sunday has been very tough to deal with. That’s what separates a fan from a fanatic and I definitely fall into the latter category.
It’s still one day away and Sunday can’t get here fast enough. I’m hoping that by the time it’s 4 PM est I’ll have hit buy now on my trip to Tampa for the playoff game. As a fanatic that’s just how I roll. I can’t explain it, nor do I want to. It’s a part of me and 4 tattoos of the team is all you need to know about how much they mean to me. The fans are like family to me and I could write dozens of stories about how amazing they are. I’ve known some for over 30 years.
The life of a fanatic is something that I’ve accepted. I’m just glad that football season isn’t longer or my heart probably wouldn’t take it.
