JT Olson’s NFL All-Pro Teams

0

It’s that time of year again. The time when we acknowledge the best of the best in the NFL. We have already seen members of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers voted to the Pro Bowl, but the highest honor is to make the All Pro team.

There are certainly some Bucs who are in the mix to make this team. However, even beyond that, this is a good time to take stock and know where the bar is and who is the best of the best. I don’t have an All Pro vote, but if I did then here’s what my team would look like.

Quarterback – Lamar Jackson

Running Back – Saquan Barkley

Tight End – Brock Bowers

Wide Receiver – Ja’Marr Chase, Justin Jefferson, Amon-Ra St. Brown

Left Tackle – Tristan Wirfs

Center – Creed Humphrey

Right Guard – Quinn Mienerz

Right Tackle – Penei Sewell

First Team – Defense

EDGE – Trey Hendrickson, Myles Garrett

Defensive Tackle – Zach Allen, Cam Heyward

Second Team – Offense

Quarterback – Josh Allen

Running Back – Derrick Henry

Tight End – George Kittle

Wide Receiver – Brian Thomas, Terry McLaurin, Drake London

Left Tackle – Jordan Mailata

Left Guard – Quenton Nelson

Right Guard – Chris Lindstrom

Right Tackle – Lane Johnson

Second Team – Defense

EDGE – Micah Parsons, Andrew Van Ginkel

Defensive Tackle – Chris Jones, Leonard Williams

Other Buccaneers in the Mix

There were three other Bucs players who I strongly considered for these All Pro teams. Some positions were tougher than others and players who had great years were just too far down the list. Some groups were more wide open and I just went in a different direction.

At defensive tackle, I had Vita Vea as my final second team selection. It was very difficult to leave him off this list, but I ended up choosing Leonard Williams over him because he has had an incredible year. Vea was named a Pro Bowler this year and he is on the edge of having had an All Pro season.

Baker Mayfield also got some consideration for his season. Unfortunately, there have been some remarkable seasons around the league for quarterbacks. My next pick would have been Joe Burrow at quarterback, but after that there is a real argument to be made that Mayfield has been the fourth best quarterback in the NFL this season.

Finally, I thought long and hard about Mike Evans. In my mind, he has been one of the best six wide receivers in the NFL this year and is worthy of that final spot. However, with the amount of time he missed he didn’t have the numbers that some of the other players had. I strongly considered putting Evans in over Drake London, but considering that London had better overall numbers and was playing with a significantly worse quarterback that was the tiebreaker for me.
