How The Buccaneers Can Beat The Commanders Wild-Card Edition

0

Alright, we’re here y’all. It’s Buccaneers playoff time. This game is fitting for the wildcard as that is what both these teams are. I could see the Buccaneers winning it or I could see the Commanders winning. it truly is up in the air. The Commanders and Bucs aren’t the most talented, but they are certainly flashy, especially on offense.

On defense, the goal is simple. Stop the run and pray to God the secondary can hold up. Over the course of the season, the defense has gotten a little bit better, especially against the run. However, one thing that has not is the pass defense. Now, that could be attributed to the secondary being injured, but I think scheming has played a role there. Needless to say, the Bucs are ranked 29th in pass defense for a reason. Some good news is that Jamel Dean and Antoine Winfield Jr should be coming back.

Now, even though this run defense has gotten better, one of the things the defense did not do good last time is keep Jayden from scrambling on passing plays. There were a lot of times where the defense did not keep rush lane integrity allowing Jayden to get easy yards by running for the first down. That needs to change. And this is not something I noticed from the Commanders specifically but rather over the last couple weeks. The Bucs defense has been very susceptible to short, quick throws over the middle. It makes sense as that’s the easiest way for teams to beat the blitz Bowles has called. But if I can notice it, Kliff Kingsbury almost assuredly has as well.

On offense, I know we want to see the Marshon Lattimore/Mike Evans cage match, but I do not. We need to run the ever living crap out of the football. Baker Mayfield should maybe have twenty attempts on the day with Bucky having thirty carries. The Washington secondary is good. The run defense is not. Get the run game going and if Lattimore is locked up with Evans, then just get Jalen McMillan involved in the game. He’s been heating up going into the playoffs.

If this game goes down according to the match up on paper, it will be very fun for general fans and stressful for the fans of the teams. By all accounts, this should be a shoot-out with Daniels dotting WRs and the Bucs trampling a whole lot of Commanders. Therefore, this game will likely be a low scoring affair as it always happens. I still think the Bucs are more talented as a whole and can beat Washington. However, Jayden Daniels has proven he can carry a team by himself to the finish line. It’ll be interesting for sure.
