Buccaneers OC Pulls Shady Move After Agreeing To Terms With Tampa

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had reportedly just made offensive coordinator Liam Coen one of the league’s highest-paid coordinators. At least that’s what everyone thought.

It appears Coen has decided to sneak away and take a second interview with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Without informing the team he just agreed to terms with.

Via Ian Rapoport,

“Plot twist: #Bucs OC Liam Coen has been speaking with the #Jaguars in person for their HC job, and he is a key candidate to be the coach in Jacksonville, per me and @TomPelissero.

Days after agreeing to a massive extension in Tampa, he may find a HC job he could not refuse.”

Via Rick Stroud,

“Coen had not spoken to the Bucs since yesterday afternoon. They tried to reach him and have been unable to. Instead of signing his contract, which was a formality, he secretly traveled to Jacksonville to meet with Jags owner Shad Kahn.”

Via Jenna Laine,

“Liam Coen called Todd Bowles about 40 minutes ago about the Jacksonville job, I’m told. So this is why the Bucs front office did not hear from him all day, and why Coen said he did call Bowles.”

This is basically getting texted a picture from your girlfriend of your car at another women’s house and then realizing you’ve been caught and caller your girlfriend back acting innocent.

I’m not sure how this will play out, but this is a horrible look for Coen, the Jaguars and the Buccaneers.

This boarders on tampering and at this point, how could Coen walk back into the Bucs locker room and be respected? There’s nothing wrong with wanting to improve your career. But you have to do it the right way, with respect. Coen chose to be shady and should be looked upon as such.

But wait, it gets worse….

Via Rick Stroud,

“To be clear, the Liam Coen contacted head coach Todd Bowles around 5 p. m. Thursday. He said he had been with one of his kids, who had taken ill, at a doctors office. He mentioned the Jaguars situation only briefly, saying he wanted to look back into it.”

And yet, it gets even worse.

Via Albert Breer,

“More detail on the Liam Coen situation—the Buccaneers offered a 3-year deal on Monday to make their OC the highest-paid coordinator in NFL history. It was contingent on him not taking the second interview with the Jags. Which is the reason for the secrecy on the Jax visit.”

Via Liam Coen’s Wife,

“I hate that I even have to say this, but when people are negative about my kids, I will not be silent. Our son is sick, we were at the hospital yesterday seeing a specialist for his autoimmune disease. Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.”

Obviously nobody wants to see a child dealing with an illness, any illness. We send our thoughts and prayers to the Coen family and hope for nothing but positive news about the child’s health.
