Buccaneers Rookie Severely Snubbed For Yearly Award

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers franchise has always been low on the respect meter in the NFL media world. But this latest slight might be one of the more egregious ones.

The nominees for the Associated Press’ Offensive Rookie of the Year showcase an impressive array of talented players, but a notable absence stands out, raising eyebrows and sparking debate over the snub.

The Associated Press has unveiled its nominees for the prestigious NFL awards, to be presented at the NFL Honors ceremony preceding the Super Bowl. The Offensive Rookie of the Year (OROY) category boasts an impressive lineup, featuring:

1. Jayden Daniels, quarterback, Washington Commanders
2. Brock Bowers, tight end, Las Vegas Raiders
3. Malik Nabers, wide receiver, New York Giants
4. Bo Nix, quarterback, Denver Broncos
5. Brian Thomas Jr., wide receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars

Notably absent from the list, however, is Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving, a surprising omission that raises eyebrows. Irving’s impressive performance warrants recognition, making his exclusion from the nominees a puzzling oversight.

Bucky Irving’s rookie season was nothing short of remarkable. He emerged as not only the top rookie running back but also one of the elite running backs in the entire NFL. Irving’s impressive stats include:

1,122 rushing yards
8 touchdowns
5.4 yards per carry (4th in the league)

Additionally, he showcased his versatility with 392 receiving yards. Irving’s contributions were instrumental in powering the Buccaneers’ top-five rushing attack, which was among the most electrifying in the league.

It’s perplexing to see Bucky Irving omitted from the list, given his outstanding rookie performance. While winning the award might have been a long shot against strong contenders like Jayden Daniels and Brock Bowers, Irving’s impressive season undoubtedly merited recognition and inclusion among the nominees.
