Buccaneers fans, I never thought I would be covering a story this insane.
Alright I wanted to try and wait for this to firmly wrap up, but this is actual insanity. The last time a team got screwed like this was Josh McDaniels to the Colts. And it is very similar to this. Liam Coen agreed to terms, but he had not signed technically. So, he decided to look back into the Jaguars head coaching role with Baalke being fired. That’s fine in my opinion, and expected honestly.
What really upsets me is to agree to terms, and then sneak off to the other team. And please, do not think I am a salty bitch about this. He did in fact sneak off. Reporting from Jenna Laine, Rick Stroud, and Adam Schefter all indicate he ignored calls from the team. That is a bad look in my opinion, but it gets so much worse. Rick Stroud has reported Liam Coen lied about his kid’s doctor.

“I hate that I even have to say this, but when people are negative about my kids, I will not be silent. Our son is sick, we were at the hospital yesterday seeing a specialist for his autoimmune disease. Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.”
That is incredibly shady to do. I understand having no remorse for screwing over millionaires and billionaire owners. However, there is a way to go about this that doesn’t screw over your former team. And if Pewter Report is to be believed, the Bucs’ front office is furious. Like, so furious that if this thing fell through, they might just fire his ass. And now we know why he had to be sneaky about it. The Bucs deal had a stipulation saying he couldn’t go back to the Jags for a second interview. So, that means he did this so the deal wouldn’t be void.
I understand the people saying the Bucs should’ve gone about this better and that we should stop crying. However, I don’t think the Buccaneers and fans are wrong for being upset about this. We got screwed, plain and simple. We can be thankful this didn’t drag on for longer so the Bucs aren’t too behind in searching for their next OC. And this team is in a good spot in terms of player personnel.
We have a lot of talent on that side of the ball. I respect Coen’s ability as an offensive talent and the Jags for sticking with their man, but this is not a good look for him and the Jags. He better hope and pray this job doesn’t fall through. Because honest to God, he might not even have a job in Tampa anymore. I have my criticisms of Bowles, but I would never ever expect him to do this to anybody. He places a lot of value on loyalty.
Obviously nobody wants to see a child dealing with an illness, any illness. We send our thoughts and prayers to the Coen family and hope for nothing but positive news about the child’s health.
