The Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ search for a new offensive coordinator to replace Liam “Slimy” Coen is ongoing, with the team continuing to conduct interviews. Recently, a member of the Los Angeles Rams’ coaching staff has entered the mix, having already interviewed for the vacant position with the Buccaneers.

On Monday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers announced that they have interviewed Nick Caley, the Los Angeles Rams’ tight ends coach and passing game coordinator, for their vacant offensive coordinator position. Caley has been with the Rams since last season, initially serving as tight ends coach before assuming additional responsibilities as passing game coordinator this season.

Via the team’s website,

“The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued their search for a new offensive coordinator on Monday, completing a virtual interview with Nick Caley, the Los Angeles Rams’ tight ends coach/pass game coordinator.”

Before joining the Los Angeles Rams, Nick Caley spent six seasons (2017-2022) with the New England Patriots, where he served as the team’s tight ends and fullbacks coach, honing his skills and expertise under the Patriots’ esteemed coaching staff.

Nick Caley is an alumnus of John Carroll University, a prestigious institution renowned for producing a remarkable number of accomplished NFL coaches and executives. Notable alumni from John Carroll University include legendary coach Don Shula, as well as esteemed figures such as Josh McDaniels, Bill and Chris Polian, Greg Roman, Nick Caserio, Tom Telesco, and Dave Ziegler.

The Buccaneers are currently searching for a new offensive coordinator following Liam Coen’s departure to become the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars. It’s no surprise that the Buccaneers are looking to the Los Angeles Rams to fill this vacancy, given the reputation of head coach Sean McVay’s coaching tree. Over the years, coaches who have worked under McVay have become highly sought after by other teams, making them a natural target for the Buccaneers as they seek to fill this key position.
