Buccaneers Interview Rams QB Coach For Their OC Position

0

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers interviewed Dave Ragone for their offensive coordinator position on Tuesday. Ragone was the Los Angeles Rams’ quarterback coach in 2024. Previously, he served as the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator from 2021 to 2023.

The Buccaneers are swiftly searching for Liam Coen’s replacement after he became the Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coach. Coen spent one season as Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator.

The team has virtually interviewed several candidates, including:

– Marcus Brady, Los Angeles Chargers Pass Game Coordinator
– Grant Udinski, Minnesota Vikings Assistant Offensive Coordinator/Assistant Quarterbacks Coach
– Nate Scheelhaase, Los Angeles Rams Offensive Assistant/Pass Game Specialist
– Nick Caley, Los Angeles Rams Tight Ends Coach/Pass Game Coordinator

Dave Ragone, like Nate Scheelhaase and Nick Caley, played a key role in the Los Angeles Rams’ successful 2024 season. The Rams won the NFC West title with a 10-7 record, then secured a Wild Card victory over the 14-3 Minnesota Vikings.

Despite injuries to key players, including Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, the Rams ranked 10th in the league in passing yards per game (227.5).

Under Ragone’s guidance, quarterback Matthew Stafford had a strong season, throwing for:

– 3,762 yards
– 20 touchdowns
– 65.8% completion rate

Dave Ragone launched his coaching career in 2010 with the Hartford Colonials in the United Football League (UFL), coaching quarterbacks for one season.

In 2011, Ragone joined the Tennessee Titans as wide receivers coach under Head Coach Mike Munchak, holding the position for two years.

He transitioned to coaching the Titans’ quarterbacks in 2013. After Munchak’s staff was dismissed, Ragone rejoined the NFL in 2015 as the Washington Commanders’ offensive quality control coach.

In 2016, Dave Ragone joined the Chicago Bears as quarterbacks coach under Head Coach John Fox.

After two seasons, Ragone was retained by new Head Coach Matt Nagy, continuing as quarterbacks coach.

In 2020, Nagy promoted Ragone to pass game coordinator. Before transitioning to coaching, Ragone played quarterback in the NFL. He was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2003 and played for several teams, including the Cincinnati Bengals, St. Louis Rams, and Carolina Panthers.
