Buccaneers GM Debunks Jaguars Troll

Rumors are a constant presence in the NFL, and the Buccaneers are no exception. With deals and relationships being forged behind closed doors, it’s inevitable that some information will leak out. While some rumors may be true, others can be nothing more than speculation that gains traction. Unfortunately, these unsubstantiated rumors can sometimes catch the attention of those involved, leading to unnecessary online drama.

Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht took to social media on Wednesday to address a rumor circulating online. A Twitter account called Yard Line Yoda, apparently affiliated with the Jaguars, had posted a claim that Licht told Assistant General Manager Mike Greenberg that if Greenberg interviewed for the Jaguars’ vacant GM position and didn’t get the job, he wouldn’t be allowed to return to the Buccaneers’ facility. Licht responded to the rumor, seeking to set the record straight.

“Bucs GM Jason Licht told Ast GM Mike Greenberg that he better be sure that the Jaguars are hiring him for their GM spot.

Insinuating he wouldn’t be welcomed back if he took the interview and didn’t get the job.

More bad practice by the Bucs.”

It’s confirmed that Mike Greenberg withdrew his name from consideration for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ general manager position before the rumor mill started churning. However, the report claiming Jason Licht told Greenberg he wouldn’t be welcomed back to the Buccaneers if he didn’t get the Jaguars job appears to be false. Licht’s response to the rumor? Three laughing emojis, which pretty much says it all.

But that wasn’t the end of it. To further poke fun at the rumor, former Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick jumped into the conversation, sarcastically commenting that the alleged ultimatum sounded like something Jason Licht would do – clearly implying the opposite, and adding to the ridicule of the rumor.

It’s clear that this rumor has been thoroughly debunked. On a more positive note, Jason Licht can confirm that Mike Greenberg will indeed remain in Tampa Bay for another year. With that settled, Licht and Greenberg will continue to work together in pursuit of the Buccaneers’ third championship title in 2025.

The BR Rub

This is a classic example of engagement farming by Yard Line Yoda. He states something that will create buzz with no source and little substance, then responds to every comment to keep the engagement flowing. This is what’s wrong with social media, especially Twitter. Now that anybody can buy a blue checkmark, nobody is really verified. So YLY and his ilk take advantage of this in an effort to gain the attention their obvious desperate existence craves. Kudos to Licht and Fitzpatrick for debunking this. With that said, accounts like YLY should be called out, trolled, and ultimately muted or blocked. Which would most likely crumble YLYs shallow psyche.
