Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield is facing another change in leadership. For the third consecutive year, Mayfield will work with a new offensive coordinator, as Josh Grizzard replaces Liam Coen.
Having served as passing game coordinator under Liam Coen last season, Josh Grizzard is already familiar with the offense. Now, with his first opportunity as an NFL offensive coordinator, Grizzard is eager to seize the moment and make a lasting impact.
Although the offense is still adjusting to Liam Coen’s system from just a year ago, Josh Grizzard is confident that his own vision will build upon, rather than disrupt, the existing framework. He’s eager to put his own stamp on the offense and take it to the next level.
“At the end of the day, as coaches, we need to be able to adjust to scheme,” Grizzard stated. “It could be on a yearly basis, [or] it could be on a weekly basis, to put the players in a position to score points. That’s what we’re tasked to do, and now having another offseason to be able to add to that and add different pieces, we feel like last year was just the foundation to be able to take it to the next level.”
The challenge ahead is daunting, as the Buccaneers boasted the fourth-highest scoring offense in the league last season, averaging 29.5 points per game. Additionally, their run game was equally impressive, ranking fourth-best with 149.2 yards per game.
To make matters more challenging, Baker Mayfield enjoyed a career-best season under Coen’s guidance, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. However, Josh Griffrid is undaunted, expressing confidence that he can build upon last year’s success and propel the Buccaneers to even greater offensive heights.
