The Tampa Bay Buccaneers came up just short of their ultimate goal in 2024. Despite the disappointment, the team saw significant improvement on offense.
Several players showcased their potential, including third-round draft pick Jalen McMillan. McMillan stepped up and delivered a strong performance after Chris Godwin suffered an ankle injury against the Baltimore Ravens.
While McMillan showed promise in his second season, he hasn’t yet reached the level of production and consistency that Chris Godwin brings to the table. As Godwin enters free agency, the Buccaneers would undoubtedly welcome his return to the team.
According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, the Buccaneers have expressed their intention to re-sign Chris Godwin.
“Let’s just get this out of the way now. Sources told ESPN the Bucs absolutely want Godwin back and will do everything in their power to make that happen, with no concern about his recovery from a dislocated left ankle in Week 7,”
“Of course, there is precedent for them with this, having rewarded him with a three-year deal worth $60 million after he tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee in 2021. Still, conversations must be had and pen still has to hit paper. But it’s clear how the Bucs feel about him.”
When Godwin went down, McMillan stepped into the No. 2 receiver role, but as he enters just his second season, he still has significant growth and development ahead. If the Buccaneers are unable to re-sign Godwin, they’ll need to identify and secure a reliable receiver to complement Mike Evans.
