The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reinstated Jon Gruden into their Ring of Honor, just shy of four years after his removal. This recognition honors his achievements as the team’s Super Bowl-winning coach.

Gruden’s removal from the Ring of Honor in October 2021 was prompted by leaked emails containing derogatory language, including misogynistic, racist, and homophobic slurs. The controversy led to Gruden’s resignation as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Buccaneers statement on Gruden’s return to the Ring of Honor,

“Jon Gruden was initially inducted into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor based on his many accomplishments during his seven seasons as our head coach and he remains a significant figure in the history of our franchise. Upon further reflection, we have decided to reinstate him into the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.”

At the time of his removal, the Buccaneers released a statement saying that Gruden’s actions “go against our core values as an organization.”

Jon Gruden, 61, served as the Buccaneers’ head coach from 2002 to 2008, highlighted by a Super Bowl championship in his inaugural 2002 season. During his tenure, Gruden amassed a 57-55 regular-season record and a 3-2 postseason record.

Gruden’s NFL coaching career also includes stints with the Oakland Raiders (1998-2001) and the Las Vegas Raiders (2018-2021), where he coached until his resignation. Throughout his career as an NFL head coach, Gruden has compiled a 117-112 regular-season record and a 5-5 postseason record.
