The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are facing a crucial offseason challenge: upgrading their pass rush. After a lackluster performance in pressuring opposing team’s quarterbacks, they’re expected to be aggressive in pursuing a proven pass rushers in free agency. By adding a talented edge rusher or defensive lineman, the Buccaneers aim to revitalize their pass rush.
After watching this year’s Super Bowl, there’s one pending free agent that’s really stuck out to us. Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Josh Sweat. And ESPN’s Aaron Schatz agrees.
According to ESPN analyst Aaron Schatz, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers should prioritize Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Josh Sweat as a key target in free agency.
“Although the Buccaneers were a surprising 11th in pass rush win rate (41.7%) this past season, they’re probably losing several edge rushers to free agency, including Anthony Nelson and Joe Tryon-Shoyinka. Enter Sweat, fresh off an impressive Super Bowl LIX performance. He had six tackles, three quarterback hits and 2.5 sacks,”
Schatz continues,
“Sweat also had eight sacks during the regular season and 33 pressures. He will be 28 next season, so he’s right in the prime of his career.”
A Perfect Fit For The BuccaneersÂ
As one of the top linebackers available in free agency, Josh Sweat may come with a hefty price tag. However, securing his services could provide the Buccaneers with the elite pass-rushing presence they’ve been seeking, potentially elevating their defense to the next level.
The Buccaneers will be able to officially sign Josh Sweat and other free agents when the new NFL league year commences on Wednesday, March 12.
The BR Rub
Josh Sweat is a perfect fit for the Buccaneers defense. Sweat’s size, speed and athleticism would be an instant upgrade for the Pewter Pirates pass rush. You can pretty much count on eight sacks a season from Sweat. That would put him as the team leader in sacks for the Bucs last season. That alone makes this a no-brainer.
