Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles has been making headlines this week, as he’s been a prominent presence at the NFL Combine. Bowles has been actively engaging with the media, participating in interviews and press conferences with reporters.
During his media appearances, Bowles has fielded a range of questions, including his insights on potential draft targets for the Buccaneers and his stance on the “tush push” play. As a member of the NFL Competition Committee, Bowles offered a clear perspective on the matter, arguing that the league should not ban the play simply because defenses have yet to find an effective way to counter it.
However, Bowles’ combine attendance was briefly interrupted on Friday, as he was noticeably absent. The reason behind his departure was revealed on Saturday, shedding light on his temporary exit.
According to ESPN’s Jenna Laine, Bowles departed the combine on Friday to return to Tampa, where he had a unique engagement. On Saturday, Bowles threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Yankees-Astros spring training game, a notable honor for the self-proclaimed Yankees fan, who hails from Elizabeth, New Jersey.

Although the combine is set to conclude on Sunday, March 5, Bowles may face criticism from his players upon his return, as the Yankees’ broadcast on the YES Network jokingly suggested he “skipped the combine to take the plate”.
