Buccaneers Godwin Expected To Be ‘Incredibly Sought After’ In Free Agency

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a huge decision to make regarding wide receiver Chris Godwin. Do they re-sign him or play it risky and let him hit the free agent market.

If General Manager Jason Licht and company can’t strike a deal with Godwin, then what would his value be if he hits free agency? According to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi, that price will be over $25 million.

Per Mike Giardi,

“Per league sources, Chris Godwin will be incredibly sought after, assuming he gets to free agency. Patriots expected to be the driver there. It’s gonna cost more money than you would have thought (think in excess of $25 million per) despite the season-ending injury.”

According to NBC Sports’ Matthew Berry, who spoke with sources at the NFL Combine, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are eager to re-sign wide receiver Chris Godwin. However, Godwin is expected to draw significant interest as a free agent, with a “competitive market” likely to drive up his value.

Godwin was originally drafted by the Buccaneers in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft from Penn State. After completing his four-year, $3.2 million rookie contract, Godwin was poised to become an unrestricted free agent for the first time. However, the Buccaneers exercised the franchise tag, temporarily retaining his rights.

After playing under the franchise tag the Buccaneers signed him to a lucrative three-year contract worth $60 million, with $40 million guaranteed. The deal will expire after the 2024 season, making Godwin eligible to become an unrestricted free agent once again in 2025.

Godwin’s 2024 campaign was marked by consistent production, as he hauled in 50 receptions on 62 targets for 576 yards and five touchdowns across seven appearances.
