Buccaneers First Day of Free Agency is Eventful

Samaje Perine had a great career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

What little hope Patriots fans had has been stomped thoroughly and completely over the last few days. DK Metcalf can be traded to Foxborough? Ha, nope, he’s joining George Pickens in Pittsburgh because the Steelers have a certain type at WR (crazy).

You’re throwing all the money at Chris Godwin? Lol, he told you to screw off and signed for less money back in Tampa. Sad days for Yankees fans indeed. But Godwin based on all reports chose less money to stay with the Bucs. Which is a testament to the culture Tampa has built. They’re signing him to a three-year $66 million deal with two seasons fully guaranteed. It is a risk considering he’s coming off yet another season ending injury, but he has bounced back before from a worse injury. I have faith he will look amazing yet again.

The Bucs will be returning every offensive starter from last year as they lock up Ben Bredeson to a 3 year $22 million deal. I have to be honest, this move does not excite me. He was playing at an average level, which made him the worst player on the line; a luxury for sure. But I figured they could find a long term replacement in the draft. With that said, it’s far from the worst move ever and it at least keeps the continuity along the line. The team might be thinking he can improve upon what he did last year. Or maybe they draft a project and develop him to take over eventually.

Then we have Haason Reddick. I have to be honest, I’m not excited by this in the least. It’s a one-year, low risk deal, which is nice. And the Buccaneers are banking on him returning to form. But all I see is Randy Gregory all over again. It’s a high-profile pass rusher coming off a bad season with drama involved. My only hope is that he will actually show up to practice unlike Gregory. And that he doesn’t demand a long-term deal.
