Buccaneers Offensive Lineman Signs With Jacksonville

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a strong start to the new league year, re-signing veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin to a three-year contract, along with Ben Bredeson. They also added a high-impact player in edge rusher Haason Reddick, who brings a high-risk, high-reward dynamic to their defense.

The NFL’s free agency period has exploded into a frenzy on its opening day, although official signings won’t occur until Wednesday. By all accounts, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had a standout start, and fans can expect more moves as the week unfolds.

Although the Buccaneers have been busy retaining and acquiring talent, they nearly escaped the day without losing a player to another team. However, backup center Robert Hainsey did ultimately depart, signing a three-year, $21 million contract ($13 million guaranteed) with the Jacksonville Jaguars, reuniting him with coach Liam Coen.

“Source: #Bucs C Robert Hainsey has agreed to terms with the #Jaguars on a 3-year, $21M deal in a deal done by Tommy Condon of CAA. He gets $13M guaranteed.

More protection for Trevor Lawrence and a family face for Liam Coen.”

Hainsey, a 2021 draft pick out of Notre Dame, started at center for the Buccaneers from 2022-2023. However, with the emergence of rookie Graham Barton, Hainsey found himself relegated to backup duty. Seeking a starting role, Hainsey has now joined the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he’ll be responsible for snapping the ball to and protecting quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

With Hainsey’s departure, the Buccaneers may now be seeking a backup center to support Graham Barton. They can likely find an affordable option through free agency or by targeting a prospect in the later rounds of the NFL Draft in April.
