Buccaneers New EDGE Rusher Talks Jets Holdout And More

0

Haason Reddick, the Buccaneers’ newest pass-rushing addition, has established himself as a formidable force in the NFL. From 2020 to 2023, he consistently delivered double-digit sack totals, with 11 or more in each of those seasons. However, his production took a notable dip last year, as he recorded just one sack.

Reddick’s single sack last season can be attributed to his prolonged absence from the field. He held out for the majority of the offseason and the early part of the season, finally being activated by the New York Jets in Week 7. The holdout stemmed from Reddick’s desire for a contract extension, which he had been seeking while with the Philadelphia Eagles. After being traded to the Jets, Reddick anticipated a long-term deal, but it never materialized. Instead, he played out the season on a restructured short-term contract.

Understandably, Buccaneers fans might be concerned about Reddick’s holdout and diminished production last season, especially considering his impressive form just two years prior. However, during his introductory press conference, Reddick addressed those concerns directly, reassuring Bucs fans that they have nothing to worry about regarding his tumultuous 2024 campaign.

“I know that everybody is worried about last year, but last year was last year, right? I’m here now, different mindset, different space.” Via Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud. “I’m just ready to put the past behind me and move forward — what better place to do it than here?”

When questioned further, Reddick acknowledged that his time with the Jets in New York was unusual, but he’s choosing to put that chapter behind him. With his focus now squarely on the upcoming season, Reddick is eager to move forward and don the Buccaneers’ uniform.

“Very bizarre. Very bizarre, weird. But as I said, last year is last year. The only thing on my mind is moving forward and looking toward the future. I’m looking forward to what I can bring the team here.”

“I wanted to be around a great group of men and thought there was no better place than here,” said Reddick. “Looking to get here and blend well with the guys and get things rolling.”

Reddick appears to be approaching his new opportunity in Tampa Bay with a clear and level head. With a secure contract in place and a one-year deal to focus on, he’s poised to make a significant impact with the Buccaneers in 2025.
