The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are on the hunt for their third Super Bowl title, having last won it in 2020. Their first championship came in 2002 under head coach Jon Gruden, and Gruden is optimistic that the team can capture that magic again in the upcoming season.
Jon Gruden recently joined the “Fitz & Whit” podcast, hosted by former Buccaneers quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and ex-NFL lineman Andrew Whitworth. When asked about his top contenders for 2025, Gruden surprisingly named the Buccaneers as one of his top picks, going as far as to predict that they could potentially hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.
“I think Tampa Bay’s already proven they can win the South,” Gruden stated. “I think they can be a Super Bowl contender, and I know Todd Bowles is a pain in the ass to go against. He can do a great job with multiple blitzes and fronts and coverages… if they can get a few defensive players, I think Tampa Bay could be really good.”
The Buccaneers have bolstered their defense in free agency, making a notable splash with the signing of edge rusher Haason Reddick to a one-year, $14 million deal. They’ve also added cornerback Kindle Vildor and linebacker Anthony Walker to the mix. With the draft on the horizon, the Bucs are likely to further fortify their defensive core, potentially targeting an off-ball linebacker or cornerback to round out their roster.
Todd Bowles is facing a pivotal season, seeking to build on his 2023 playoff win. According to Jon Gruden, if Bowles can secure one postseason victory, he may have the momentum to make a deeper run – potentially all the way to a championship.
