FitzMagic Urges Gruden to Meet with Buccaneers’ New OC Grizzard

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are set to have their fourth offensive coordinator in as many seasons. Despite general manager Jason Licht’s impressive roster building efforts this offseason, the team is poised to add even more talent with the NFL Draft, kicking off on April 24.

The Buccaneers have named Josh Grizzard as their new offensive coordinator for 2025, filling the void left by Liam Coen. Coen departed the organization amidst controversy to take on a coaching role with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

With Grizzard at the helm, the Buccaneers’ offense is expected to undergo minimal changes. As the former passing game coordinator, Grizzard will likely retain much of the existing terminology and scheme, while incorporating elements he learned from Mike McDaniel during his time in Miami.

Ryan Fitzpatrick, a former Buccaneers quarterback, recently discussed Josh Grizzard and the upcoming season with former Tampa Bay coach Jon Gruden on his podcast, “Fitz & Whit“, which he co-hosts with Andrew Whitworth.

Fitzpatrick thinks it would be a good idea to get Gruden and Grizzard together.

“I need to connect you with Josh Grizzard,” Fitzpatrick told Gruden. “Young guy, really smart dude that’s been in a few different systems, and I think he can learn a lot from you and you’d help him out a lot. So I would like to hopefully bridge that gap for you guys.”

Fitzpatrick and Grizzard have a prior connection, having spent time together in Miami, which should provide some insight into Grizzard’s approach.

The BR Rub

I’ll quote Tracy Morgan here, “NO, NOPE, HELL NO!” We understand Gruden is getting more attention now that he’s part of Barstool Sports. And yes he’s getting his name put back up at Raymond James Stadium. But what does a guy who has been out of the league for four years have to add? The answer is, cute one-liners, a massive ego, and bluster.

Sure he can tell some stories from days past. Obviously he can draw up plays. But he’s still a five games above .500 coach in his career. Add in the previously mentioned ego, and there’s not much there to entice Grizzard to a sit-down.
