Former Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady is reuniting with another former Tampa Bay teammate, having already brought in Alex Cappa, a starter from the Bucs’ Super Bowl LV win.
The Raiders are signing linebacker Devin White to a one-year deal, as reported by Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz. Notably, new Raiders GM John Spytek was with the Buccaneers when they drafted White with the fifth overall pick. After a brief stint in Philadelphia and Houston, White will look to revive his career in Las Vegas.

The Raiders have significant holes to fill at linebacker after losing starters Robert Spillane (Patriots) and Divine Deablo (Falcons) in free agency. So far, their only addition is Elandon Roberts, signed to a one-year, $3 million deal. With the draft likely to be a key area for upgrades, the Raiders are taking a low-risk chance on White, whose value has decreased sharply since the Buccaneers exercised his fifth-year option.
White’s 2023 season was marked by turmoil, despite earning $11.7 million via his fifth-year option. He lost playing time due to a combination of factors, including a dispute with the team over his role, and an injury issue, ultimately ceding snaps to K.J. Britt.
White was eventually replaced in the lineup by K.J. Britt, who started alongside Lavonte David. The 27-year-old White attributes his diminished standing within the Buccaneers organization to his offseason trade request in 2023, which was motivated by a desire for a top-five inside linebacker contract. However, his performance in 2024 suggests that his decline in Tampa may not have been an isolated incident.
White never regained his starting position, playing only 40 defensive snaps in the Buccaneers’ two playoff games that year. The Raiders are now offering White a chance to revive his career, although they’re likely to further bolster their linebacker corps with at least one more starter-quality addition.
