Buccaneers HC Provides Update on Chris Godwin’s Status for 2025 Season

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin was in the midst of a career year in 2024. While ranking among the top five in several key statistical categories. However, his momentum was abruptly halted in Week 7. That is when an injury sustained during the team’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens brought his impressive season to a screeching halt.

Godwin’s season came to a sudden and painful end when he suffered a dislocated left ankle in the Week 7 matchup, an injury severe enough to require him to be carted off the field.

As Godwin was carted off the field, he was seen uttering a determined phrase: “back to work.” True to his words, Godwin has been diligently rehabbing his injury, and his commitment to the Buccaneers has been rewarded with a three-year contract extension. Notably, Godwin left significant money on the table to remain in Tampa Bay, a city his family calls home.

The Buccaneers have made a significant investment in Godwin, and they’re banking on him making a successful return to the field, much like he did after overcoming a torn ACL just a few seasons ago.

At the annual NFL meetings, Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles addressed the status of veteran wide receiver Chris Godwin, providing an update on his potential availability for Week 1.

“I’m hoping he’s on the field Week 1,” Bowles stated. I’ll have more to know about that after [this] month goes on, see how he feels when he gets running and practicing and everything else.”

Rumors had circulated about a potential setback in Godwin’s rehabilitation from his dislocated ankle. But those concerns appear to be unfounded. Godwin himself has reassured that he’s working diligently to regain his pre-injury form, leaving no stone unturned in his quest to return to peak performance.

Bowles’ comments have cast some uncertainty over Godwin’s availability for the season opener. The next few months will be crucial for Godwin as he intensifies his rehabilitation, gradually returning to the field to test his ankle’s strength and durability. Until he’s observed in practice or preseason action, it’s difficult to predict which version of Chris Godwin will emerge in 2025: the pre-injury Pro Bowl-caliber performer or a player still rounding into form.

One constant that can be counted on is Godwin’s unwavering work ethic and unrelenting determination. Throughout his career, he has consistently demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of adversity, and his current rehabilitation is no exception. Although he may not immediately return to his 2024 form, Godwin’s tireless dedication ensures that he will stop at nothing to deliver his best effort for the Buccaneers, the organization that has invested in him as a cornerstone franchise player.
