The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and wide receiver Mike Evans have agreed to restructure his current deal to free up cap space for the team in 2025.
“#Buccaneers star wide receiver Mike Evans restructured his contract for cap purposes, converting part of his base salary into bonus, lowering it to $1.21 million, cap figure $25.358 million from $26.024, adding $7.745 million gtd above $35 million gtd from deal last year @KPRC2”
“Evans had a $21 million base salary, but only has void years on his deal after 2025. If I’m reading it right, it creates $14.7 million in 2025 cap space, but it creates dead money. If they re-sign him before his deal is up in March, they can avoid a big acceleration in 2026.”
The exact amount of cap space created by this move has not been verified as of yet. But as Auman said, it looks to be roughly $14.7 million. We will post the details of this restructure once the information is available.
Key Consideration: Unused cap space in 2025 rolls over to 2026 without penalty. This means you can allocate cap space now and use it later, essentially an interest-free loan, without needing a specific purpose or signing in mind.

“Bucs also restructured the contract of receiver Mike Evans, but not for any cap savings. Some of Evans’ compensation was moved forward to pay him sooner, but it didn’t create any new cap space.”
