Buccaneers HC Todd Bowles said the team is hopeful WR Chris Godwin will be available in Week 1, per JoeBucsFan.com. However, he admitted that’s not a sure thing.

Via JoeBucsFan.com,

“Not sure yet, says Todd Bowles, if Chris Godwin will be available Week 1. He hopes he will be. Bowles says cornerback Bryce Hall (same dislocated ankle injury) is running full speed, which is encouraging all around.”

Via The Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud,

“I’m hoping he’s on the field Week One. I’ll have more to know about that after [this] month goes on – see how he feels when he gets running and practicing and everything else.”

Chris Godwin is currently rehabbing a fractured ankle injury that he suffered midway through the 2024 season.

Despite his ongoing recovery, the Buccaneers showed significant confidence in Godwin’s progress by inking him to a three-year, $66 million contract with $45 million guaranteed. However, it appears that Godwin still faces a few challenges in his rehabilitation process.

A 2017 third-round draft pick out of Penn State, Chris Godwin, now 27, 29, initially played under a four-year, $3.2 million rookie contract. As he approached unrestricted free agency for the first time, the Buccaneers applied the franchise tag to retain him.

Following the 2021 season, during which he played under the franchise tag, Godwin signed a three-year, $60 million extension with $40 million guaranteed in 2022. He was set to hit free agency again in 2025, but instead inked a new three-year, $66 million deal with $45 million guaranteed, keeping him in Tampa Bay.

Chris Godwin’s 2024 campaign was limited to seven games due to injury, but he still managed to produce impressive numbers, hauling in 50 receptions on 62 targets for 576 yards and five touchdowns.
