Buccaneers HC on Haason Reddick: He’ll Be His “Old Self” In Tampa

According to Tampa Bay Buccaneers Head Coach Todd Bowles, the team signed pass rusher Haason Reddick last month with the expectation that he would return to his Pro Bowl-level performance.

Reddick’s 2024 season was marked by unusual circumstances. He was traded from the Philadelphia Eagles to the New York Jets, then requested a trade before ultimately playing for the Jets. Despite finishing the season with just one sack, Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles expressed confidence in Reddick’s abilities, citing his years of observation. Additionally, Bucs assistant Larry Foote has a strong familiarity with Reddick, further solidifying the team’s faith in his potential.

“I knew him as a player,” Bowles stated. “Foote had a lot to do with him, and we talked about it quite a bit. I knew he was a heck of a pass rusher. We needed a pass rusher, and we knew he started halfway through the season, so I would consider last season a wash for him, and we expect him to be his old self with us.”

Reddick’s impressive track record of double-digit sacks from 2020 to 2023 has caught Coach Todd Bowles’ attention. Bowles is eager to leverage Reddick’s pass-rushing skills to create pressure with just the front four, eliminating the need for blitzing linebackers and defensive backs.

“He can rush the passer,” Bowles said. “So if we got guys that can rush the passer, we let them rush the passer. Like I said last year, we need to rush better with four. I think he brings a great addition to help us rush with four so we can cover more and do those type of things. We’ll still pressure some, but hopefully it won’t be as much as last year because we had to instead of how we want to. So I think he brings that to the table for us.”

If Reddick, 30, can recapture the form that made him successful in Philadelphia, rather than repeating his underwhelming performance in New York, he will be a valuable asset to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
