Buccaneers Sign Deion Sanders’ Son as an UDFA

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed on of Deion Sanders’ son to their roster as an Undrafted Free Agent. No, not the quarterback one, it’s the Safety Shilo Sanders that lands with the Pewter Pirates.

As Deion Sanders’ son, Shilo’s college career has been a rollercoaster ride of standout moments and injury setbacks. He played for South Carolina and Jackson State, where he earned Second-team All-SWAC honors in 2021, before joining Colorado. In his one season with the Buffaloes, Sanders showed promise, ranking 9th all-time among CU defensive backs with 70 tackles in 2023.

However, a recent shoulder injury expected to keep him sidelined for six months has tanked his draft stock. This latest setback adds to concerns about his injury-prone history, which includes a Jackson State ACL tear and previous finger issues, putting a question mark over his NFL future.

Sanders is a physical safety who brings a hard-hitting style and decent aggression, but struggles with consistency and creating game-changing plays. As a 25-year-old rookie with a history of injuries over the past three seasons, he’ll face an uphill battle. Sanders isn’t suited for high safety due to limited range and instincts, but his vision and aggression could work for him as a down safety. To stick in the NFL, he’ll need to clean up his pursuit angles and make an impact on special teams.
